Course Info

Course Description: This presentation will offer critical discussion of audiology concepts as related to the work of school-based speech-language pathologists. Frequently misunderstood aspects of audiologic test results and hearing device benefits/limitations will be emphasized. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and apply the presentation content through practical examples. 

 

Agenda: 

5 minutes: Introduction

15 minutes: Understanding audiologic test results

30 minutes: Understanding hearing device benefits and limitations

25 minutes: Applications for school-based speech-language pathologists 

 

Learner Outcomes:

Participants will be able to:

  1. Describe what can and cannot be determined from audiologic test results
  2. Identify at least 3 benefits and limitations of hearing devices for language development
  3. Apply audiology concepts appropriately to a case sample of a deaf or hard of hearing child

Instructor(s)

Sarah Sparks

Dr. Sarah Sparks is a deaf clinical audiologist and founder of Audiology Outside the Box, a telepractice focused on holistic communication, audiologic counseling, and education. Her goal in clinical work is to support children, adults, and their families toward effective communication and a great quality of life. Some of her clinical interests are pediatric audiology, vestibular and balance disorders, cochlear implants, and audiology services provided in American Sign Language.
