Course description: This presentation will cover best practices when working with different types of remote microphone hearing assistive technology (RM/HAT). This includes fitting, verification, sound checks and basic troubleshooting. RM/HAT is constantly changing and staying up to date on best practices when working with equipment is imperative to ensure that students are receiving access.

Agenda:

5 minutes: Introduction

20 minutes: RM/HAT: What is out there and who recommends it?

20 minutes: RM/HAT: Fitting and verification 

20 minutes: RM/HAT: Daily sound checks and maintenance

30 minutes: RM/HAT: Troubleshooting


Learner outcomes:

Participants will be able to:

  1. State the different types of RM/HAT currently available
  2. Explain basic fitting and verification protocols
  3. State basic troubleshooting techniques for current RM/HAT

Instructor(s)

Rachel Parkington

Dr. Rachel Parkington earned her Doctorate in Audiology (Au.D) from The University of Northern Colorado and her Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Communication Disorders from The University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She started working as an Educational Audiologist in 2014 and became the owner of Hear to Learn, LLC in May 2015. Dr. Parkington is currently the President of the New Hampshire Academy of Audiology, a member of the Educational Audiology Association (EAA) Advocacy Committee and is the New Hampshire EAA State Representative. In her free time, she spends time with her husband, son, and twin girls enjoying the many outdoor activities that New Hampshire has to offer.
