Course information

Course description: This workshop will be about personal bias and how it impacts one’s work in the classroom. We will analyze how bias can harmfully and negatively impact how we interact with our DHH students. Deaf education staff will discuss and unpack their biases, learn how to change their biases into experiences, and ultimately change their perspectives. DHH students often experience discrimination and oppression, due to bias from interpreters and other professionals. These professionals may develop bias unintentionally or intentionally, however, it does affect the DHH students in many ways. This workshop will bring up scenarios and problems and have professionals analyze their biases and how they impact DHH students.
